I'm a student visiting from the U.K. I didn't know the larger issue at stake here when I signed up for student dorms in Harlem. However, perceptions of white people as evinced in this post make me feel unwanted- even though in my mind, I've done nothing wrong. Is the answer to Harlem's problem simply to rid it of all white people through hostility? For the record, I've not suffered no abuse living here, although there were definitely times I felt like I was trespassing simply by walking down a public street. I feel like victimizing white people just because they are easily associated with gentrification and big business isn't really fair.
